What Are Implant-Supported Dentures?
Partial or complete removable dentures require adhesives or pastes to stay in place, but implant dentures are anchored with titanium posts in your jaw to fit securely. This ensures the implant dentures won't move out of place, even when eating or speaking. With more security and support, patients with implant dentures can feel confident that their teeth will remain in place. Implant-supported dentures look great and can be treated just like natural teeth. At Apex Dentistry, North Platte, NE patients can get implant-supported dentures that are comfortable and natural-looking. Learn more about implanted dentures, and decide if they suit your needs. What Should I Expect with Implant-Supported Dentures?
Before treatment, Dr. Boettcher will complete a thorough dental exam, including digital x-rays, to assess the strength of your jawbone and gums. If your jawbone or gums are too weak to accept the dental implants, a gum and/or bone graft can be performed. Once the area has healed and is sufficiently dense, you can have implant surgery.
Local anesthesia will be administered to numb your mouth before the procedure. Sedation options can be considered if the process is lengthy or you need it to feel comfortable. Dr. Boettcher will make incisions in your gums and insert implants in the holes in the jawbone. For dentures, four or more implants are usually used for each arch. The incisions in the gums will be closed with some of the implant visible above the gumline. A temporary denture will be used to cover the posts as they heal in 4 – 6 months. The implants will integrate with your gums and jaw. Once Dr. Boettcher decides that the dental implants are fully healed, your custom-made dentures will be attached to the implants and adjusted for a secure fit.
